Documents Required For Entry Into Peru

A passport with six months validityΒ is required to enter Peru. Migraciones (Immigration) authorities may also require evidence of return/onward travel. Be sure your date and place of entry is officially documented by Migraciones, whether you arrive at a port, airport, or land border.

Vaccinations

Electrical Power

Peru’s standard voltage is 220 volts, similar to Europe but different from the 110-120 volts used in the United States and Canada. If you are bringing 110-volt devices, you will need a voltage converter. Peru uses the same two-pronged flat plugs found in the U.S., but you may also encounter three-pronged and two-pronged circular plugs.

Many personal electronics, such as cell phones, tablets, and camera chargers, are dual voltage and can operate on both 110 volts and 220 volts. However, appliances like hairdryers may not be dual voltage. Always check the power label on your devices to confirm their voltage compatibility and follow the manufacturer’s guidelines to avoid damage.

To ensure you can use all your devices, we recommend bringing a two-in-one travel converter and adapter. This is especially important if you are traveling from Europe or other regions with different plug types. While many hotels in Peru provide suitable outlets, having an adapter on hand can prevent any unplanned inconvenience.

Should You Be Concerned About Altitude Sickness?

Please be aware that the Peru Adventure Quest retreat includes destinations at high elevations: Machu Picchu (approx. 8,000 ft), Cusco (approx. 11,000 ft), and Rainbow Mountain (approx. 17,000 ft). The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) advises that individuals with chronic lung disease, symptomatic heart disease, and sickle cell disease may not do well at high elevations and should consult a travel medicine specialist before planning their visit.

To ensure your well-being, our retreat itinerary has been thoughtfully designed to minimize the risk of altitude sickness. We encourage all participants to take necessary precautions and seek medical advice if you have concerns about high-altitude travel.
